Awareness for communication clinicians during the Corona epidemic

In honor of Awareness Week for Communication Clinicians 2020, a team of ELIA Jerusalem clinicians share tips

When wearing the mask and interacting with the children, the ability to understand speech is impaired.
There is a reduction in visual cues such as: lip reading, facial expressions and mimics.
When background noises: such as a morning meeting or additional conversation between people understanding speech and speech perceptions is more difficult, so it is difficult to understand each other.

Some tips to help us get through the coming period:
● Slowing down the speech rate
● Discourse in turns without erupting into each other’s words
● Reduce background noise – such as turning off background music
● Emphasis of facial expressions: such as eyes
● You should keep your voice, so there is no need to shout!
● Children who assemble knitting machines – make sure they assemble every day and all day!
● Try to convey a short and clear message – do not utter unnecessary text!
